I was probably the only rapper other than hammer who channeled Michael in a commercially successfully way. I mixed dance and street in a way that hadn't been done. Hammer was street dancing. We were technical. What people don't realize is that Michael was more of a street dancer than he was technical (meaning-modern, jazz, tap, african) but his ability to lock in and polish his self was bar none. This is why his videos were so amazing their were two things going on. And in C and C I added to that phenomenon. Just look at my videos Rock and Roll, Gonna Make You Sweat Things That Make You Go Hmmm and Freedom and you can see Michaels influence. Listen to the solo album I made in 93 called Freedom and you hear Michael Jackson all over it.
Although I was from the street and a rapper I saw a need to pay homage to the man the myth the legend.
Their was a young man in a showtime series called Red Shoe Diaires the title of this episode was called "Emily's Dance" which was loosely based on my life. I starred in it and one of the main dancers was a young man who had actually played a grown Michael Jackson in the made for tv movie. I use to tell him not to stand next to me when he danced cause he was so channeled into Michael Jackson that no one would notice me. Unfortunately this young man died from sickle cell while making this piece with me. I never got to work with Michael Jackson personally but met him on wonderama as a child and as an adult.
I remeber being on tour and often having to stop myself cause I would imitate him. I would tell myself stop
When I did my solo album I went to LA to work wit the cats from thriller the horn section that Quincy used on Thriller.
Frank Dileo Michaels manager and I use to hang out all the time in the early 90'S along with Joe Pesci Franks good friend
His influence on my life and music is profound.
Rest in peace michael we love and we appreciated all you gave us. May the aliens in heaven Aliyah, James Brown, Eartha Kitt, Left Eye, Farrah, all died on the 25 and in islamic mathematics that tranlates into
Wisdom-power which equals 7. 7 is Gods number they are all with GOD
The lesson u get from Michael Jackson is how to be kind and sweet in the face of so much angst and aggression
